RAFTING
to the third paradise
Starting from the language of theatre and visual art, the "RAFTING" project has always set itself the objective of activating a transit of communication between art and society, within which the artistic creative process could offer indispensable tools for a reading of contemporary reality, its needs and its emergencies, starting from the reflection of young emerging artists or those still in the training phase.
Partendo dal linguaggio del teatro e dell’arte visiva, il progetto “Zattere” si è sempre posto l’obiettivo di attivare un transito di comunicazione tra arte e società, all’interno del quale il processo creativo artistico potesse offrire strumenti indispensabili per una lettura della realtà contemporanea, dei suoi bisogni e delle sue emergenze a partire dalla riflessione di giovani artisti emergenti o ancora in fase di formazione.
Over the following years, the project has expanded its scope, involving realities of excellence in the international art scene and leading figures in the world of curating and art criticism.uring 2014, the development phases of a project were thus carried out which, in the following year, would lead to the creation of an artistic platform on the social theme of the abandonment of places, of their reuse, obviously tackling the theme not so much on an architectural level as on a social one.
Nel corso degli anni successivi, il progetto ha amplificato la propria portata, coinvolgendo realtà di eccellenza nel panorama artistico internazionale e personalità di spicco nel mondo della curatela e della critica dell’arte. Nel corso del 2014 sono state così realizzate le fasi di sviluppo di un progetto che avrebbe, nell’anno successivo, portato alla realizzazione di una piattaforma artistica sul tema sociale dell’abbandono dei luoghi, del loro riutilizzo affrontando evidentemente la tematica non tanto sul piano architettonico ma su quello sociale.

SELECTED PROJECTS
Four projects have been selected: "I am Vertical", by Alba Zari for having been able to make the dichotomy between nature and artifice symbiotic; "sOs sea", by Emmanuele Panzarini, for having built the design idea with wisdom and meticulousness. Nothing is created, nothing is destroyed, but everything is transformed" by Dimitri Moro, for having synthesized in the immediate symbol of the light bulb the strong contrast inherent in nature and for having suggested a more conscious 'use' of it; "Frequenze" by Alessia Cargnelli, sound installation that connects the current free point to the voices of the city, for the ability to create a connection between the city and Porto Vecchio.
WORKSHOPS
On October 2, from 10 to 13, the Master led the realization of the sign of the Third Paradise, together with primary school children and the public present. The nerve centre of the activity is the Porto Vecchio, in the area behind the Hydrodynamic Power Station. During the morning, didactic-artistic workshops were organized by the Gruppo Immagine association which - together with Pistoletto- led participants to raise awareness among the new protagonists of tomorrow of the creative re-use of materials and their social and environmental sustainability (in line with the themes of the Third Paradise).
The workshops continued throughout the week of Barcolana (October 2-October 8) by the association Gruppo Immagine. In addition, on December 21, 2015, Rebirth Day, at the headquarters of the MINIMU in Trieste, Gruppo Immagine organized and promoted the activities of education to the Third Paradise, thus concluding the cycle of laboratories.
PROGETTI SELEZIONATI
Quattro i progetti selezionati: “I am Vertical”, di Alba Zari per aver saputo rendere simbiotica la dicotomia natura / artificio; “sOs sea”, di Emmanuele Panzarini, per aver costruito con sapienza e minuziosità l'idea progettuale. A tale osservazione si suggerisce il consiglio di riprodurre il simbolo del Terzo Paradiso con il medesimo gioco grafico utilizzato per il titolo del progetto (sOs).; Nulla si crea, nulla si distrugge, ma tutto si trasforma” di Dimitri Moro, per aver sintetizzato nel simbolo immediato della lampadina il forte contrasto insito nella natura e aver suggerito un suo 'utilizzo' più consapevole; “Frequenze”, di Alessia Cargnelli, installazione sonora che collega l’attuale punto franco alle voci della città, per la capacità di creare una connessione tra città e Porto Vecchio.
I LABORATORI
Il 2 ottobre, dalle 10 alle 13, il Maestro ha guidato la realizzazione del segno del Terzo Paradiso, insieme ai bambini delle scuole primarie e al pubblico presente. Centro nevralgico dell’attività proprio il Porto Vecchio, nell’area retrostante la Centrale Idrodinamica. Durante la mattinata sono stati organizzati laboratori didattico-artistici impostati dall’associazione Gruppo Immagine che –insieme a Pistoletto- ha portato i partecipanti a sensibilizzare i nuovi protagonisti del domani al ri-utilizzo creativo dei materiali ed alla loro sostenibilità sociale ed ambientale (in coerenza con le tematiche del Terzo Paradiso).
I laboratori sono continuati durante tutta la settimana della Barcolana (2 ottobre- 8 ottobre) a cura dell’associazione Gruppo Immagine. Inoltre il giorno 21 dicembre 2015, giornata del Rebirth day, presso la sede del MINIMU di Trieste il Gruppo Immagine ha organizzato e promosso le attività di educazione al Terzo Paradiso, concludendo così il ciclo dei laboratori.

During the year 2015, the project began to reflect on its own future by weaving the ranks of the stages undertaken and the intermediate objectives achieved. The creation of an open call for young artists and the establishment of a residential workshop are thus taking shape.

Durante l’anno 2015, il progetto ha cominciato a riflettere sul proprio futuro tessendo le fila delle tappe intraprese e degli obiettivi intermedi raggiunti. La realizzazione di un Open call per giovani artisti e l’istituzione di un laboratorio residenziale prendono così forma.

RAFTING TO THE THIRD PARADISE
MICHELANGELO PISTOLETTO is one of the most representative living Italian artists on an international level. In his works he deals with the themes of Europe and the Mediterranean in their resources and contradictions, themes that inevitably involve our contemporary. The artist presented the project of the Third Paradise at the Venice Biennale in 2003, with a strong connotation of social commitment and which later took on a collective and planetary dimension.
In view of this commitment, Spazio5 artecontemporanea has promoted the project "RAFTING TO THE THIRD PARADISE", an international open-call for contemporary art created with the aim of rethinking the area of the Old Port of Trieste in the cultural perspective outlined by the Master.
The artists were asked to identify a small area within the Old Free Port - in disuse or abandoned - to define its specificity and propose a way to enhance it, following the principle that a small sign can generate great consequences.
RAFTING TO THE THIRD PARADISE has therefore developed and built over time, maintaining its identity as a flexible and conceptual structure, while adhering to the relationships with museums, institutions and international realities.
MICHELANGELO PISTOLETTO è tra gli artisti italiani viventi più rappresentativi a livello internazionale. Affronta nei suoi lavori i temi dell’Europa e del Mediterraneo nelle loro risorse e contraddizioni, temi che inevitabilmente coinvolgono il nostro contemporaneo. L’artista presenta alla Biennale di Venezia nel 2003 il progetto del Terzo Paradiso, dalla forte connotazione di impegno sociale e che in seguito assume una dimensione collettiva e planetaria.
Nell’ottica di questo impegno, Spazio5 artecontemporanea ha promosso il progetto “RAFTING TO THE THIRD PARADISE”, OpenCall internazionale d’arte contemporanea realizzato con l’obiettivo di ripensare l’area del Porto Vecchio di Trieste nella prospettiva culturale delineata dal Maestro.
Gli artisti sono stati chiamati ad individuare una piccola area all’interno del Punto franco Vecchio- in disuso o abbandonata - definirne la specificità e proporre per essa una modalità di valorizzazione, seguendo il principio per cui un piccolo segno può generare grandi conseguenze.
RAFTING TO THE THIRD PARADISE si è dunque sviluppata e costruita nel tempo, mantenendo la propria identità di struttura flessibile e concettuale, e aderendo al contempo stesso alle relazioni con musei, istituzioni e realtà internazionali.
